The European Commission Highlights Successful Projects Over 40 Years of Achievements, Including the VIDIS Project

This year, the European Commission celebrated forty years of the EU Framework Programmes for funding research and innovation. Over these forty years, the EU has funded life-changing research, including support for numerous projects and researchers.

To manage these projects and implement its innovation policy, the EU established the European Research Executive Agency (REA) in 2007. Since then, REA has managed over 31,000 projects totaling over €30 billion in EU commitments, with new projects being added every year.

At this year’s European Research and Innovation Days, past achievements will be celebrated, and the lessons learned will help build a greener, fairer, and more competitive Europe. Among the projects that have achieved significant results is the VIDIS project.

The VIDIS project developed new low-cost sensors to monitor air quality, allowing for more frequent monitoring while avoiding large and expensive sensors. Additionally, the VIDIS Centre, an internationally recognized hub for research and innovation in air quality monitoring, was established.

This recognition by the European Commission confirms the importance and success of efforts to improve the quality of life for citizens and protect the environment.
